ARCATA, Calif- Persistent snowfall and icy travel conditions have forced Lewis-Clark State College to cancel its plans to participate in the DeBeni Holiday Classic men's basketball tournament hosted by Humboldt State this weekend. Simpson University, however, has stepped up to take Lewis-Clark's spot in the field, meaning the Seawolves will take on the Redhawks on Saturday.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
Friday with Sonoma State taking on Western Oregon in Lumberjack Arena. Following that game, Humboldt State will play Simpson, with tip-off at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Saturday's games feature Simpson going against Sonoma State at 5:30 p.m., followed by the host Lumberjacks battling Western Oregon at 7:30 p.m.
After treacherous roads lengthened the usual two-hour drive from Lewiston, Idaho to the airport in Spokane, Wash. to more than five hours, the Lewis-Clark squad was greeted with a serious of air travel delays and cancellations. At best, the team's arrival time in Arcata
may have jeapordized the event's scheduled start, and forecasters couldn't guarantee conditions would have accommodated any travel plans.
Weather played havoc with several other scheduled tournaments, including cancellation of two games at the Great Western Shootout in Las Vegas on
Thursday. CCAA schools Cal State Stanislaus and Cal Poly Pomona were unable to travel in time for
Thursday's games, and more cancellations were expected
Friday.
