The Seawolves are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation
PASO ROBLES, Calif-  Sonoma State had three golfers under par on Tuesday to capture the first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship in the program’s five-year history.  The Seawolves (858) edged Cal State Stanislaus (862) by four strokes despite rounds of 66 and 67 from the Warriors’ Erick Justesen and Jason McHargue.  Justesen earned individual medalist honors with a 70-65-67—202.

The Seawolves had a five stroke advantage heading into Tuesday’s final round action.  Big performances from Chris Galvin (70), Kyle Hopkins (71), and Jarin Todd (68) proved to be just enough to top a pair of fantastic finishes by the Stanislaus’ Justesen and McHargue.

Todd finished the tournament in second place at 70-72-68—210, eight strokes behind Justesen’s championship score.  All five of SSU’s golfers finished in the top 16 with Galvin, Hopkins, and Todd in the top nine.

For Justesen, it was his second straight CCAA championship.  He was also the unofficial winner of the tournament when he was at Cal State Monterey Bay and the Otters were provisional CCAA members.

Cal State San Bernardino finished in third place at 869.  They were followed by Cal State Monterey Bay (881), Chico State (884), UC San Diego (891), and Cal State Dominguez Hills (930).

Next up for several of the teams in the CCAA is the 2008 NCAA Division II Super Regionals, to be hosted by Sonoma State starting May 5th in Petaluma, California.
