Sonoma State To Host USA Softball Exhibition

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in association with the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA), is pleased to announce that Seawolf Field will play host to the 2008 USA Softball National Team's "Bound 4 Beijing" Tour.  Team USA will take on a regional All-Star team put together by ASA on May 18, 2008 at Seawolf Field on the campus of Sonoma State University.

The "Bound 4 Beijing" Tour, will prepare Team USA for the Olympic Games, to be held in Beijing, China in August.  Team USA is looking for their fourth consecutive Olympic Gold Medal.  Featuring legendary players like Jennie Finch and Cat Osterman, Team USA has shut out 17 of their 19 opponents on the tour through April 6th.  The squad is coached by Mike Candrea, the head coach at the University of Arizona.

Game time is set for 2:00 pm on May 18th.  Gates open at 2:00 pm.  Following the game, the team will be available for an autograph session.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State senior Lindsay Emmel has been named the Daktronics West Region Pitcher of the Year, it was announced Wednesday after a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors.  Also the CCAA Pitcher of the Year, Emmel was joined on the First Team All-Region squad by second baseman Kayla Ledford.

ARCATA, Calif- The Sonoma State softball team saw their remarkable run at the West Region Championship come to a conclusion Sunday afternoon at HSU Softball Stadium, as the Seawolves dropped both games to No. 4 seed Cal State Stanislaus. Sonoma fell to the Warriors in game one, 2-1, and were defeated in the nightcap, 7-1. Sonoma State finishes the regular season at 36-25, while Cal State Stanislaus improves to 34-19.

ARCATA, Calif- Behind another stellar performance from staff ace Lindsay Emmel, the Sonoma State softball team defeated No. 4 Cal State Stanislaus Saturday afternoon at Humboldt State Softball Stadium, 5-2, to advance to the NCAA West Regional Championship Game for the first time in program history. Sonoma will have to be beaten twice in tomorrow's Championship round due to the double elimination format.

ARCATA, Calif- Behind another solid pitching performance from Lindsay Emmel, the Sonoma State softball team upset the No. 1 seed Humboldt State Friday afternoon at HSU Softball Stadium, 3-2. The win was Sonoma's second victory ever in post season play. The Seawolves advance to the winner's bracket and will battle a familiar foe in Cal State Stanislaus Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.

For two years, Janelle Arnold played junior college softball 10 miles from Sonoma State’s campus, but Sonoma State coach Jaime Wallin had never heard of her. For Arnold, who wanted to play for the Seawolves, that wasn’t encouraging news.
