HOUSTON, Texas- If the Sonoma State men's golf team is going to bring home a national championship, they'll need a big comeback to make it happen. The Seawolves struggled on day one at the National Championships in Houston, finishing the day in 18th place, 19 strokes behind leader, Clayton State. The event continues with one round each of the next three days.
Jarin Todd was one under for the day (71) and sits in a tie for 11th place. No other Seawolves were under par, with
Patrick Bauer (74) and
Jacob O'Keefe (74) the next lowest scores.
West Florida, the number one ranked team in the nation and considered by many to be the Seawolves' top competition for the team title, struggled on day one as well. They are tied with the Seawolves at 292.
Clayton State, unranked coming in to the event, had four golfers under par and shot a blistering 273 as a team to open up an early five-stroke lead. Jude Eustaquio of Florida Southern leads the individual leaderboard after shooting a 63.
