Seawolves Take Early Lead At NCAA Regionals

PETALUMA, Calif-  The second-ranked Sonoma State men’s golf team got out to an outstanding start on Monday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf West Regionals at Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma.  The Seawolves had three players in the top four, all of them under par for the day.

Dane Bagnell of Cal State San Bernardino took the early individual lead, shooting a 68 for the day.  He leads the second place golfers, Jarin Todd and Patrick Bauer of Sonoma State by two strokes. 

Of the five golfers currently under par, three of them are from Sonoma State.  Erick Justesen of Cal State Stanislaus is also in the red at 71.

The Seawolves hold an eight stroke lead over second place Western Washington after shooting a team total of 285.  The Vikings are at 293, three strokes ahead of Cal State San Bernardino.

Seven of the eight squads competing in the west regional are ranked in the national top 24. 

The tournament continues tomorrow with the second of three rounds.  First tee time is set for 8:00 am.  Live Scoring will be available through the Sonoma State athletics website, www.sonomaseawolves.com.

NORTHWEST REGIONAL:
Mavericks, Mountain Lions Share Lead After Day One


PETALUMA, Calif-  Minnesota State-Mankato and Colorado-Colorado Springs are tied atop the team leaderboard after day one at the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Northwest Regional at Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma, California.  Both teams finished Monday’s action at eight-over (296), two strokes ahead of Western New Mexico.

There is currently a five-way tie atop the individual leader board.  Scott Chricton of Western New Mexico, Brandon Loesch of Minnesota State-Mankato, Brian Morfeld and Todd Napikoski of Colorado-colorado Springs, and Clifton Sebra of Colorado Christian, are all at even par (72).

Colorado-Colorado Springs is currently ranked 29th in the nation in the Golf Stat Cup Rankings.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the second of three rounds.  First tee time is set for 8:00 am.  Live Scoring will be available through the Sonoma State athletics website, www.sonomaseawolves.com.

PETALUMA, Calif – Sonoma State, which has claimed two NCAA Division II national championships, will try to add a third title next week when the Seawolves' men’s golf team competes in Houston.  The squad made their trip to their anticipated trip to the nationals official on Wednesday as they wrapped up their first West Region Championship in just their fifth season of existence.

PETALUMA, Calif-   Sonoma State’s men’s golf team built a seemingly insurmountable lead after two rounds of the NCAA Division West Regional tournament at par-72 Adobe Creek GC Tuesday.  The Seawolves, the No. 1 regional seed and ranked No. 2 in the nation, stormed to a 19-shot lead over second-place Cal State Monterey Bay, carding a team score of 11-under-par 277 to go with a 3-under-par team effort (285) in Monday’s first round.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The NCAA has announced the fields for the 2008 Division II Men's Golf West/Northwest Super Regional, to be played May 5th through 7th at Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma.  Tournament host Sonoma State was granted the No. 1 seed in the West Region and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs got the No. 1 nod for the Northwest Region.

PASO ROBLES, Calif-  Sonoma State had three golfers under par on Tuesday to capture the first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship in the program’s five-year history.  The Seawolves (858) edged Cal State Stanislaus (862) by four strokes despite rounds of 66 and 67 from the Warriors’ Erick Justesen and Jason McHargue.  Justesen earned individual medalist honors with a 70-65-67—202.

PASO ROBLES, Calif-   For the second consecutive year, Sonoma State's Jarin Todd has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Golfer of the Year.  His latest trophy was one of many to be hauled home from the conference tournament by the Seawolves.

PASO ROBLES, Calif-  The Sonoma State men's golf team shot a 286-289--575 on Monday at the CCAA Golf Championships at Hunter Ranch Golf Course to take a five stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round action.  Cal State Stanislaus' Erick Justesen shot a tournament best 65 in round two to take a hold of the individual standings.
