Konrad Thieme was selected by the Florida Marlins on Friday in the 23rd round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Thieme led the Seawolves with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs in 2008.
In addition to his homer and RBI totals, Thieme hit .317 with a team-high 15 doubles. He earned Second Team All-America honors and was a First Team All-CCAA and All-West Region selection.
Thieme's 19 home runs rank fourth in school history for a single-season. His 27 career home runs are also the fourth-best total in Sonoma State history.
Thieme is the second SSU player to be selected in the 2008 draft. Travis Babin was taken by the Mets in the 16th round.
The Thousand Oaks native is the first SSU player to be drafted by the Marlins since Daniel Barone in 2004. Barone made his major league debut for the Marlins last August. He is the fifth player from Sonoma State to be drafted by Florida since 1994, joining Barone ('04), Rene Rascon ('95), Ray Green ('95), and Walter White ('94).
