Asselin Goes To Chicago White Sox In 30th Round

Kevin Asselin took home All-Region honors for the Seawolves in '08
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State pitcher Kevin Asselin was taken by the Chicago White Sox on Friday in the 30th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.  Asselin was an All-Region selection for the Seawolves in 2008.

Asselin was 9-3 with a 3.55 ERA for Sonoma State as a senior in '08.  He was third on the team with 75 strikeouts and first with three complete games. Asselin earned Second Team All-West Region and All-CCAA honors.

Asselin pitched well in big games this year, but his finest moment may have been in his only collegiate at bat.  Stepping to the plate in the 19th inning of SSU's College World Series game against Central Missouri, Asselin drove in the winning run with a fielder's choice bunt.  He held on to get the win, his ninth of the year, in the Seawolves' 6-5 victory.

Asselin was 11-5 in two years at Sonoma State.

The Redwood City native is the first Sonoma State player to be drafted by the Chicago White Sox since Roger Jensen in 1983.
