Goelz Named ABCA Regional Coach Of The Year

MT. PLEASANT, Mich- For his part in leading the 2008 Sonoma State baseball team to the first west region championship in school history, head coach John Goelz has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond Sports Co. NCAA Division II West Region Coach of the Year. Goelz's Seawolves also won their second straight CCAA title in '08 and finished third in the D-II "World Series".
Sonoma State went 52-15 overall this year and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation. The team got out to a 29-1 start to the season and never looked back, posting a school record 23 game winning streak and raking in countless post-season honors and awards.
John Goelz, the Seawolves' head coach since 1986, has a career record of 791-493-5. Over the past two seasons, the Seawolves have a record of 102-27. Goelz is a seven-time conference coach of the year and he's sent 70 of his former players on to professional baseball careers.
