Cross Country Finishes 19th At NCAA Regionals

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif- Freshman Rachel Borg finished 60th out of 161 runners as Sonoma State wrapped up its 2009 schedule, finishing 19th at the NCAA Division II West Region Championship Meet held at Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park at San Francisco.

The Seawolves competed in their second straight meet without top runner Katie Bolce but finished 19th out of 25 teams on Saturday morning in the women's six-kilometer race. Borg crossed the line at 23:25.4, a little over three minutes behind Seattle Pacific's two-time defending national champion Jessica Pixler, who won the event for the fourth consecutive year by topping her own course record (20:08.9).

Carly McCready (24:12.2) and Sablle Scheppmann (24:25.2) finished second and third, respectively, for the Seawolves as Elizabeth Bloom (24:28.0) and Meaghan O'Day (24:38.5) came in behind them. Noelle Erosa and Samantha Thomas also competed for Sonoma State, with times of 25:57.7 and 26:05.4, respectively.

Alaska Anchorage won the team event with four of its five top runners finishing in the top 10. Chico State, Seattle Pacific, Western Washington and Cal Poly Pomona rounded out the top five. The top four teams qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships on Nov. 21 in Evansville, Ind.
