Softball Eliminated From West Region Tournament

Lindsay Emmel and the Seawolves were eliminated Sunday afternoon
ARCATA, Calif- The Sonoma State softball team saw their remarkable run at the West Region Championship come to a conclusion Sunday afternoon at HSU Softball Stadium, as the Seawolves dropped both games to No. 4 seed Cal State Stanislaus. Sonoma fell to the Warriors in game one, 2-1, and were defeated in the nightcap, 7-1. Sonoma State finishes the regular season at 36-25, while Cal State Stanislaus improves to 34-19.

The Warriors scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. Kimiko Wright doubled to right center platting pinch runner Adrienne Sorenson and Meghan Franksen, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead.

Sonoma answered in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to left, scoring Jessica Abelia. Jennifer Arnold replaced Jessica Gaumnitz in the sixth, and shut down the Seawolves in the final two innings.

In the nightcap, Cal State Stanislaus scored seven runs on four hits and three errors by the Seawolf defense. All three errors for Sonoma State in the second game were committed in the third inning, where the Warriors did the majority of their damage.

Senior Brittany Williams started the elimination game and lasted only two and a third, giving up two hits, five runs, and walking two Warriror batters.

Alyssa Guzman was 1-for-3 with two RBI's, and Britney Borba finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.

HAYWARD, Calif- Off to one of their best starts in program history, Sonoma State continued to show its offensive power, blasting five home runs in two games against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers on Saturday, en route to 3-2 and 9-2 victories at Pioneer Field. The Seawolves have won five straight games, and have also won nine of their last 10 ballgames, improving to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in CCAA play. The Pioneers fell to 4-12.

HAYWARD, Calif- Ashley Britton had five hits, including three doubles, and Janelle Arnold added four hits and a home run to highlight a huge offensive day by Sonoma State, giving the Seawolves 8-0 and 12-5 victories over host Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon at Pioneer Field in Hayward. Sonoma State, who is receiving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II poll, improve to 13-4 overall and 8-2, one game out of first place in the CCAA standings. The Pioneers fall to 4-10.

SANTA ROSA, Calif- Rochelle Vanyi hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of sixth inning and pitcher Samantha Lipperd pitched out of a huge bases loaded jam with no outs to preserve the 4-3 victory over UC San Diego in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Santa Rosa Junior College. Sonoma State fell to the Tritons in the opener, 2-0. The Seawolves improve to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA. UCSD falls even at 8-8 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

SANTA ROSA, Calif- Pitchers Julianne Martinez and Samantha Lipperd combined to allow just two runs and LeeAnn Stroud hit a home run in game two as Sonoma State swept visiting UC San Diego, 3-0 and 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Santa Rosa Junior College. The Seawolves have won four straight games, improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CCAA. The Tritons fell to 7-7 (5-5 CCAA).

WALNUT CREEK, Calif-  For the second consecutive week, a Sonoma State freshman has been named the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week.  Last week it was Samantha Lipperd, this week it is Julianne Martinez, who went 3-0 at Cal State Dominguez Hills over the weekend.

CARSON, Calif- Simone Brandalise smashed a two-run home run and teammates Janelle Arnold and LeeAnn Stroud added solo shots to power Sonoma State past Cal State Dominguez Hills, 7-1, in game one of  Sunday's doubleheader in Carson. Brandalise then added a three-run shot in game two and the Seawolves held on to a 7-6 victory in the nightcap. The Seawolves took four out of five from the Toros this weekend, who improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. CSUDH fell to 7-5 (4-4 CCAA).
