Emmel Named West Region Pitcher Of The Year

Lindsay Emmel
Lindsay Emmel led the CCAA with 191 strikeouts in 2009
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State senior Lindsay Emmel has been named the Daktronics West Region Pitcher of the Year, it was announced Wednesday after a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors.  Also the CCAA Pitcher of the Year, Emmel was joined on the First Team All-Region squad by sophomore second baseman Kayla Ledford.

Emmel finished up her senior season with a record of 19-11 and an ERA of 1.72.  She also struck out 191 batters, tops in the CCAA and second for a single-season in school history.  Emmel set the school record back in 2007 with 202 strikeouts and her two-year total of 393 are second all-time.

Kayla Ledford enjoyed a breakout season in 2009, batting .313 and tying for the team lead with 35 runs batted in.  She had nine doubles, two home runs, and was sixth in the CCAA with 18 stolen bases.  An excellent defensive second baseman as well, Ledford committed just seven errors all season long for a fielding percentage of .971.

With their selection to the first team, both Emmel and Ledford will now be under consideration for All-America honors.

As a team, the Seawolves enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in school history.  At 36-25 overall, the squad turned in their first winning record since 2000 and they broke the school mark with two NCAA Tournament wins.
