Baseball Places Three On NCBWA First Team

ELLENSBURG, Wash-  Highlighted by Gary Moran's selection as Pitcher of the Year, three Sonoma State baseball players were named First Team All-West Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) on Wednesday.  Joining Moran on the squad were seniors Ian Bridges and Taylor Lewis.

Moran finished out his two-year career ranked fifth in school history in wins (15), second in ERA (2.26), and fifth in strikeouts (158).  His brilliant senior season in 2009 saw him go 7-2 with a league-best 1.37 ERA- the top mark in Sonoma history for a starting pitcher.

The NCBWA honors completes a clean sweep of the three PItcher of the Year awards in the region by Moran.  He was previously honored by Daktronics and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Bridges hit .333 for the Seawolves in 2009 and will close out his career ranked 10th in school history with a .353 career average.  He also winds up tied for fourth in hits (165), sixth in runs batted in (97), and 11th in runs scored (96).

Lewis had a very solid season out of the 'pen for the Seawolves in 2009.  A Hanford native who played with Moran at Fresno City College, Lewis made a team-high 21 appearances.  He was 6-2 on the season with a 3.03 earned run average.
