Lindsay Emmel guided the Seawolves to victory today
ARCATA, Calif- Behind another solid pitching performance from Lindsay Emmel, the Sonoma State softball team upset the No. 1 seed Humboldt State Friday afternoon at HSU Softball Stadium, 3-2. The win was Sonoma's second victory ever in post season play. The Seawolves advance to the winner's bracket and will battle a familiar foe in Cal State Stanislaus Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.

The ace of the staff, Lindsay Emmel, recorded her team-leading seventeenth complete game this season as she scattered two hits, walked three, and struck out two Lumberjacks. Emmel, now 18-10, did not surrender her first hit until the bottom of the third.

The 'Jacks notched the first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the second without posting a hit in the frame. Humboldt loaded the bases when Marissa Slattery walked to lead-off the inning, Caitlin Klug reached on an error, and Lindsay Warren was hit by a pitch. Humboldt State was unable to come up with a clutch hit as Emmel was able to escape after allowing a sacrifice fly.

The Seawolves answered immediately in the top of the third, when Nicole Cordova doubled to left field, driving in Kayla Ledford to even the ballgame at 1-1.

The biggest blast of the game came two innings later, as Ashley Sardina stepped up to the plate and nailed a two-run homerun over centerfield, giving Sonoma their first lead of the contest at 3-1. The 'Jacks would answer back with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth, supplied by Klug.

Emmel would shut the door in the seventh, sealing the victory for Sonoma State.
