GLENDALE, Ariz- The 25th-ranked Midwestern State men's tennis team took four of six singles matches on Saturday to earn a 5-4 victory over 41st-ranked Sonoma State in action at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Arizona. The Seawolves taste defeat for the first time this season, falling to 2-1 overall.
The Seawolves' day got off to a fine start in doubles play as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams were victorious.
Connor Olson and
Taylor Bianco, the nation's 27th-ranked duo won at No. 1, 8-5, while
Aaron Hamilton and
Anthony Rollins picked up an 8-6 victory at No. 2. The match of the day came at No. 3 doubles, where
Quan Vu and
Andrew Khuri-Yakub had numerous match points before losing 9-8 with a 14-12 tiebreaker.
In singles play, Olson won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and
Drexler Dy won 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) at No. 6, but that would be it as the Mustangs earned the come-from-behind win.
Olson improved to 3-0 in dual action this season and 12-4 overall when factoring in the fall individual tournaments.
The Seawolves will remain in Glendale to take on Montana State-Billings on Sunday afternoon.
