SANTA ROSA, Calif- Pitchers Julianne Martinez and Samantha Lipperd combined to allow just two runs and LeeAnn Stroud hit a home run in game two as Sonoma State swept visiting UC San Diego, 3-0 and 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Santa Rosa Junior College. The Seawolves have won four straight games, improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CCAA. The Tritons fell to 7-7 (5-5 CCAA).

Martinez dominated from within the pitching circle in game one, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out four. While she kept the Tritons off the scoreboard, Danielle D'Eccliss led off the bottom half of the fourth inning with a double and eventually scored on a bunt single by Simone Brandalise. Then, Ashley Britton brought home Stroud on a fielder's choice, who avoided the tag at the plate to give the Seawolves the 2-0 lead. Brandalise then scored Sonoma State's third run of the ballgame in the sixth when Rochelle Vanyi singled to left field.

UC San Diego wouldn't go down without a fight, though. After grabbing two quick outs, Martinez ran into trouble by loading the bases on two singles and a hit-by-pitch but Rhiannon Ousley lined out to Kayla Ledford at second base to end the threat and the game.

D'Eccliss and Brandalise had two hits each for the Seawolves and Brandalise, Britton and Vanyi all had RBIs in the 3-0 victory.

In the nightcap, Stroud didn't waste any time getting Sonoma State on the board, blasting a shot to deep left field, giving the Seawolves the 1-0 lead.

The Tritons then put up two runs in their half of the second on an error and a single to left center. It would be the only runs that Samantha Lipperd would allow for the rest of the game, although both runs were unearned.

In the bottom of the fourth, Vanyi, Vanessa Currie and Janelle Arnold each had an RBI, including Currie's double -- her first hit of her career. The three run inning gave the Seawolves a 4-2 lead.

Once again, the Tritons threatened in their last chance, with runners on first and third and two outs, but Sarah Woofter grounded out to Britton at third base to end the game.

Arnold and Britton had two hits for Sonoma State as Lipperd went seven innings in the circle, scattering just four hits, giving up two runs, both unearned, two walks and a strikeout.

Sonoma State and UC San Diego will wrap up their four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. The games will again be at Santa Rosa Junior College due to the field conditions at SSU.
