Rachel Borg Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  For her hard work in the classroom, Sonoma State freshman Rachel Borg has been named All-Academic by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCAA).

Borg had a tremendous debut season for the Seawolves in 2009.  A native of Newark, Borg was the Seawolves' top finisher in four meets last season, including both the CCAA and NCAA West Region Championship meets.  She finished second overall at the CSUMB Invitational and third at the Cal State Stanislaus Invite. 

To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 semester/quarter hours through the semester of competition at the institution to be eligible. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships or have placed in the top 50% of the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif- Freshman Rachel Borg finished 60th out of 161 runners as Sonoma State wrapped up its 2009 schedule, finishing 19th at the NCAA Division II West Region Championship Meet held at Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park at San Francisco.

McKINLEYVILLE, Calif-  Competing without No. 1 runner Katie Bolce, the Sonoma State cross country team managed a ninth place finish on Saturday at the CCAA Championship Meet at Beau Pre Golf Course in McKinleyville.  Freshman Rachel Borg was the Seawolves' top finisher.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif-  Behind a 13th place finish from sophomore Katie Bolce, the Sonoma State women's cross country team ran to a ninth place finish at the Gator Invitational on Friday afternoon in San Francisco.  Bolce ran the 6k course in 22:49 to put her 11th among NCAA Division II competitors.

TURLOCK, Calif-  Sonoma State got top five performances from freshman Rachel Borg and sophomore Katie Bolce to finish second as a team at the Stanislaus Invitational on Saturday morning in Turlock.  In addition to the front runners, all five of the Seawolves' scorers finished in the top 16.

SEATTLE- Katie Bolce finished 24th in a field of 202 participants and teammate Rachel Borg finished just behind her at 26th, helping Sonoma State to a 10th place finish at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, hosted by the University of Washington.

SACRAMENTO, Calif-  Led by sophomore Katie Bolce and freshman Rachel Borg, the Sonoma State cross country team ran to a sixth place finish at the Hornet Jamboree on Saturday in Sacramento.  The Seawolves were the top NCAA Division II school and they defeated two NCAA Division I schools in the process.
