Stephanie Barnes Named To All-CCAA Second Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif- Sonoma State University senior Stephanie Barnes has been named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association Second Team, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Barnes led the team in points this season.

Averaging a team-leading 27.3 minutes per game, Barnes led the team in scoring in six games, including a career-high 21 point outing against Cal State L.A. on Dec. 5.

The 5-10 native of Sebastopol appeared in 26 of Sonoma State's 27 games this season, averaging 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. Barnes wrapped up a two-year career for the Seawolves this season after transferring from CCAA-rival Cal State San Bernardino before the 2008-09 season. She appeared in 53 games, making 47 starts.

Top honors in the CCAA went to Chelsea Carlisle, a sophomore from UC San Diego (MVP), Alishea Kelly, a senior from Cal State Stanislaus (Newcomer of the Year), Lauren Lucchesi from Cal State East Bay (Freshman of the Year) and Charity Elliott was named Coach of the Year for leading the Tritons to a 24-3 overall record, a 19-3 conference mark and a No. 1 seed in the CCAA tournament.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Two local basketball standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers with the Sonoma State women’s basketball team, it was announced by Head Coach Mark Rigby on Tuesday. Aly Henington and Bronte Sheahan will join the Seawolves in 2010-11.

HAYWARD, Calif-  Heading into their final regular season game, the Sonoma State women's basketball team knew they would need a win and some help to advance to the CCAA Championship Tournament.  They took care of the first task on their own with a 68-65 win over Cal State East Bay.  However, after intense deliberation by the conference that ended in a coin flip, the Seawolves were left out of the tournament field.  They see their season end at 11-16, 9-13 CCAA.

LA JOLLA, Calif- Looking for a win to stay alive in the hunt for a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament berth, Sonoma State clashed with 14th-ranked UC San Diego, but the Tritons led from start to finish en route to a convincing 68-52 victory over the visiting Seawolves. UCSD clinched the CCAA regular season title for the second straight year while improving 23-3 and 18-3 in conference play. Sonoma State lost its fourth straight game, falling to 10-16 and 8-13, as the Seawolves will now need some help to get into the post-season.

TURLOCK, Calif- Down by three points with 22 seconds left, Jaclyn Bisordi stole the ball and Sonoma State called a time out. However, Cal State Stanislaus came up big defensively on two offensive possessions by the Seawolves to hold onto the 58-51 victory on Saturday night at Warrior Arena. Sonoma State has lost three in a row and six of their last seven to go to 10-15 overall and 8-12 in conference play. The Warriors moved up to 8-16 (7-13 CCAA).

CHICO, Calif- Oly Larkin and Nadia Williams scored just seven points to lead Sonoma State as host Chico State rolled to a 71-39 victory on Friday night at Art Acker Gymnasium, grabbing its fifth consecutive victory while clinching a berth into the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament (16-8, 13-6 CCAA). The Seawolves have lost five of their last six, dropping to 10-14 overall and 8-11 in the CCAA.
