SANTA ROSA, Calif- Austin Hogans smashed his third home run this season, but Cal State Dominguez Hills' pitching staff held Sonoma State to just three other hits, helping the Toros to defeat the Seawolves, 6-3, in California Collegiate Athletic Association baseball play on Friday morning at Santa Rosa Junior College. Game two that was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Sonoma State University has been rescheduled and will be part of a doubleheader on Saturday in Vacaville.

Sonoma State falls to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Cal State Dominguez Hills notched its 10th win of the season, moving to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the CCAA.

The Toros didn't waste much time to put a run up on the scoreboard off of Seawolves starting pitcher Scott Alexander. A sacrifice fly to right field by Abel Medina scored Carlos Leyva, who reached base via a hit by pitch to leadoff the game.

Randy Wells then came up in the third inning and tripled down the right field line, scoring Steven Filippi to knot the score at one. The Toros pulled away, putting up a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to give Cal State Dominguez Hills a comfortable 4-1 lead.

Hogans came up in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the Toro lead in half with a deep shot to left center field. The Seawolves then got one more run in their next offensive chance when Brian Wright scored on a balk by Kurowski. It would be as close as Sonoma State would get.

The Toros put up insurance runs in the seventh and again in the ninth to pull away for the 6-3 victory.

Wells had two hits in the ballgame to pace SSU, including the aforementioned triple in the third. Hogans and Joey Parigi notched the other two hits for the Seawolves.

Alexander (0-3) tossed five innings, giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Kevin Pillar went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Brian Sturgis and Steve Carillo each had two hits for the Toros, who finished with 11 hits as a team. Kurowski remained perfect on the season (3-0), after pitching six and two-thirds innings, scattering just three hits and allowing two runs. Matt Phillips got his second save of the season after coming into the game in the ninth, allowing just one hit.

Sonoma State will return to action tomorrow to host a doubleheader at Vacaville Christian High School, beginning at 11:15 a.m against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Box Score: Cal State Dominguez Hills 6, Sonoma State 3
