VACAVILLE, Calif- Ryan Stevens doubled home the first run of the game in the opener, then Austin Hogans had the eventual game-winning RBI single one batter later and Thomas Lee pitched seven quality innings, giving up just one run to help Sonoma State defeat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon in Vacaville. In game two, Brian Wright broke up a no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh -- the only Seawolf hit in the nightcap -- and the Toros ignited for seven runs in the final inning, as CSUDH cruised to a 9-0 victory.

With the split, the Seawolves remain at .500 with an 8-8 overall record, but sit at 2-5 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Toros move to 11-7 and 7-4.

In the first game, both teams remained scoreless through the first three and a half innings until Sonoma State grabbed the first two runs of the game via RBIs from Stevens and Hogans.

Cal State Dominguez Hills got one back in the top of the sixth after Steve Carrillo reached on a fielders choice, allowing Kyle Pond to score. In the next offensive opportunity for the Seawolves, Max Shupe had a two RBI single that brought home Randy Wells and Wright to jump out to a 4-1 lead.

In the seven innings on the mound, Lee (2-2) allowed just one run on five hits and struckout five. Brian Flint came in for the final two innings and shut the Toros down, earning his fourth save of the season.

In the second game, CSUDH grabbed two runs right off the bat, so to speak, after a single and a sacrifice fly put the Toros up 2-0 early. From then on, it became a pitchers duel between Jarrod Dumont and the Toros' Bret Montgomery. Neither pitcher allowed a hit after the top of the first. At least until the seventh.

Dumont pitched six innings, giving up just two hits and the two runs while walking seven and striking out five. Montgomery, on the other hand, stretched a no-hitter into the seventh, until Wright spoiled attempt with one out in the bottom of the seventh. It would be the only hit Montgomery would allow. He struck out nine in the winning effort.

It was in the top of the seventh when the Toros exploded for seven runs off of SSU pitcher Joey Van Cleave, including a two-run bomb to left field by Carrillo.

Sonoma State will wrap up its four-game series with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.

Box Scores:
Sonoma State 4, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1
