ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Using nine different pitchers and plenty of substitutions elsewhere, Sonoma State found a way to win, and with a large margin. Thanks to a home run and four RBI by Matt Campbell, the Seawolves defeated the visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, 11-4, in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond. Sonoma State moves back to .500 with a 9-9 record, while Cal State Stanislaus fell to 9-11.

Max Shupe got things off to a quick start for the Seawolves, poking a two-out RBI double to right center field, scoring Bobby Cozine to put SSU on top early, 1-0.

Cal State Stanislaus' Michael Johnson then gave the Warriors the lead in the top of the third with a two RBI double of his own that put CSUS up 2-1.

It would prove to be the only time the Warriors would lead in the ball game, as Sonoma State exploded for eight runs over then next three innings, including a five spot in the fifth to grab control. In the fifth, Erik Hansen, Jon Richards and Cameron Cook doubled for the Seawolves as part of a six-batter span who reached base via a hit or fielders choice.

The Warriors scored two runs in the top of the seventh on a couple of doubles, but it would be as close as they would get. Campbell put the nail in the coffin in the eighth with his two-run shot to deep left center field, giving the Seawolves the eventual 11-4 victory.

Campbell came off the bench for Sonoma State, and went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with the aforementioned home run. Daniel Nimoy, Erik Hansen, Michael Cole and Max Shupe all had two hits each, giving the Seawolves 16 total hits in the contest. Cook had two RBI in the game.

Head coach John Goelz pitched nine different guys on the mound Tuesday, each pitching just one inning. Robby White (1-0) earned the victory with his effort in the fourth inning. He was the pitcher of record when Sonoma State took the lead for good. Keith Thompson had a solid outing, striking out the side in his appearance in the second inning. Every day first basemen Joey Parigi made a relief appearance in the ninth and struck out two of the four batters he faced. Sonoma State pitchers combined to allow 10 Warrior hits, but struck out 13 Stanislaus batters.

For Cal State Stanislaus, Douglas Porras had three hits to lead the Warriors at the plate. CSUS used seven different pitchers. Tyler Harris (0-1) got the loss after giving up the go-ahead runs in the fourth.

Sonoma State will travel south to second-ranked UC San Diego in La Jolla Friday through Sunday. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Box Score: Sonoma State 11, Cal State Stanislaus 4
