ROHNERT PARK
-- The Sonoma State men's basketball team held off a furious Notre Dame de Namur second half rally on Wednesday night to defeat the Argonauts 78-71 in non-conference hoops action at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  Justin Herold and Patrick Scott each had 16 points as the Seawolves improve to 4-3 on the season.  The Argonauts drop to 1-8.

Sonoma State tried to start things off with a bang as Jason Walter and Herold attempted the ally-oop on thier first possession out of the tip-off.  Unsuccesful, Herold would eventually get the first two points for the Seawolves on a high-percentage layup.  Sonoma State never trailed in the first half, leading by as much as 12 points, 34-22, after Brandon Glanz netted back-to-back buckets including a rare three-pointer that got the bench riled up with 3:10 left before the break.  However, the Argonauts would not back down, outscoring SSU 10-4 in final 1:46, including three-point plays by Micah Dunhour and Wesley White.  Notre Dame de Namur would be down by six, 38-32, at halftime.

The Argonauts wasted no time coming out of intermission as Dunhour hit a jumper on NDNU's first possession to cut the deficit to four points.  The Seawolves would not be silenced, as a jumper by Herold and a basket from beyond the arc by Walter kept Sonoma State up by nine points, 43-34, early in the second half.  Fast forward to 12:20 left in regulation, were Will Olsem ventured into the paint and put in a layup to give the Seawolves their biggest lead of the game at 14 points, 60-46.  After widening the gap to 14 points, the Seawolves got that two-thirty feeling, allowing the Argonauts to go on a 13-1 streak to bring them within two points, 61-59, with 5:35 remaining in the game.  Notre Dame de Namur was able to get as close as one point, 68-67, but were never able to lead the game.  Sonoma State was able to hold their ground and seemingly got their swagger back at the 1:41 mark, when Herold threw down a huge dunk to ignite the offense, once again.  The Seawolves would go on an 8-4 run to close out the game and take 78-71 victory, despite a valiant effot from Notre Dame de Namur.

The aforementioned Herold and Scott each led the way for the Seawolves with 16 points, while Walter was not far behind, dropping in 15 points of his own.  Despite only attempting one three-pointer, Olsem had eight points, going 3-for-4 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.  Glanz chipped in with seven points off the bench, hitting his first three-pointer as a Seawolf.  Jabri Jenkins got his first minutes of the season, contributing accordingly with six points.

For Notre Dame de Namur, Dunhour led the Argonaut offense with 16 points, hitting 3-of-5 from three point land.  Geoff Hartman scored 15 points, while White kicked in 11 points for NDNU.

Sonoma State will take a break for the holidays, but will back in action on Dec. 30, when they travel to Fresno to take on Division I Fresno State.  This will be the third Division I school that the Seawolves have played this season, however this game will count towards their overall record (games against St. John's and St. Mary's were exhibition games).  The Seawolves will kick off 2013 with games on the road at CCAA rivals Chico State (Jan. 4) and Cal State Stanislaus (Jan 5.).  Sonoma State is currently 2-2 in conference play, tied for fifth in the conference standings with Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
