WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- For the second time this season, Sonoma State ace
Thomas Lee has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week. He picked up the honor for the week of April 30th to May 6th for his fine effort on Saturday, when he allowed just two hits and struck out eight en route to a shutout win over Cal State Monterey Bay. The victory was the seventh of the season for Lee and it moved the Seawolves to within one game of a CCAA Tournament berth, which they would go on to clinch in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Lee was simply brilliant on Saturday, baffling Otter hitters the whole way. He allowed only one walk and faced just one batter over the minimum on his way to his first career complete game shutout.
The victory upped the Bakersfield native's season record to 7-2. He has a 2.59 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 80 innings of work.
A senior, Lee recently became Sonoma State's all-time leader in innings pitched and strikeouts. His career numbers include a 16-7 record, 3.20 ERA, and 209 strikeouts.
Lee has been a big part of the Seawolves' success this season. Sonoma State finished in a tie for fourth place in the conference (23-17), but received the bid to the CCAA Tournament because of a series victory over Cal Poly Pomona. They are making their fifth appearance in the CCAA Tournament in the last six years and will attempt to win it for the sixth time since 1999.
Sonoma State's first round opponent will be the top-seeded UC San Diego Tritons. UCSD finished 26-14 in conference play and is hosting the tournament for the first time.
