Volleyball Edged By Cal State Bakersfield

Rachel Sagapolu led the Seawolves with 17 kills
BAKERSFIELD, Calif-  The Sonoma State volleyball team lost a five-game match to Cal State Bakersfield on Friday night in Bakersfield.  The Roadrunners won 23-30, 30-25, 22-30, 30-22, 15-10 to improve to 3-10 overall and in the CCAA.  The Seawolves drop to 8-9, 5-8 CCAA.

SSU got out to a strong start as they won going away in the first game, 30-22.  After the 'Runners battled back to take game two, the Seawolves used a 9-1 stretch late in game three to take a 2-1 advantage.  In game four, Bakersfield got out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back to set up the fifth and deciding game.

After CSUB opened up a 4-1 lead in the fifth game, Sonoma State came back to square things at five apiece.  However, a subsequent 6-1 run by the 'Runners put the game, and the match, away.

Junior Rachel Sagapolu led the Seawolves with 17 kills.  Michelle Fletcher added 15 kills and five blocks.

Bakersfield's Kayla Williamson broke the school record with 41 digs, shattering a ten-year old mark.   Sophomore Rosemary Stribling and Sarah Warner also contributed to the 'Runner win with 21 and 20 kills respectively.

Sonoma State will head south to take on No. 18 Cal State L.A. on Saturday.
