Seawolves Beat Warriors In Five-Game Thriller

Rachel Sagapolu had 16 kills for the Seawolves on Saturday

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State got 16 kills from Rachel Sagapolu to come from behind and beat Cal State Stanislaus 3-1 (30-28, 25-30, 29-31, 30-28, 15-11) in a thrilling CCAA match on Saturday night in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves improve to 9-11, 6-10 CCAA with the win while the Warriors drop to 10-13, 6-10 CCAA.

The win avenged a 3-2 loss to Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock back in September.

The Seawolves edged the Warriors 30-28 in game one before Stanislaus returned the favor with a 30-25 win in game two.  In the third game, Sonoma State was serving game point at 29-25 before the Warriors reeled off six consecutive points to take the game 31-29. 

After getting out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth game, Sonoma State watched Stanislaus slowly chip into the lead before tying it at 21.  The squads would go back and forth before Sonoma State got the game-winner on a kill by Kendall Leatherberry.  Game five would also go in SSU's favor as they forced six Warrior hitting errors to complete the comeback.

Rachel Sagapolu had 16 kills and just two errors in 61 attempts to lead the SSU offense.  Lindsay Webb (15 kills) and Michelle Fletcher (14 kills) also played a heavy role in the Seawolf attack.  Lillian Harms continued her solid play at libero, finishing with a game-high 35 digs.  SSU got 57 assists from their two-headed setter combo of Leatherberry and Lindsay BrownSarah Illingworth had a hand in eight blocks.

Katie Hoag took game-high honors with 21 kills for the Warriors.  Debbi Vander Schaaf had 17 kills and Ashley Hullen went for 31 digs.  Kayla Van Duyn posted 54 assists in guiding the Warrior offense.

The Seawolves head out on the road for their final road trip of the year, next weekend at Cal Poly Pomona and No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino.
