Seawolves, 'Jacks Battle To 1-1 Tie

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State and Humboldt State played to a 1-1 tie in CCAA women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The tie leaves the Seawolves at 8-5-1, 6-3-1 CCAA while the Lumberjacks go to 6-4-4, 3-3-4 CCAA.

Humboldt found net first when Katie Forba forwarded a ball to Kim Halloran, who beat the SSU defense to the left.  The strike came just before halftime and gave the 'Jacks a 1-0 lead at the break, despite a 10-3 SSU advantage in shots.

Sonoma State didn't waste much time tying the game as they found paydirt just six minutes into the second half.  Megan Catton took advantage of a free kick and sent a perfect pass to Khyra Buchanan, who headed it in.

Again, despite a healthy advantage in shots, the Seawolves were unable to score the game-winner as the teams went through two overtime periods scoreless.  SSU outshot HSU 21-7 for the game and 3-0 in overtime.

Said SSU head coach Luke Oberkirch, "That's soccer.  Sometimes you can dominate the game, but not get a win.  Today were just weren't able to capitalize on our opportunities."

While the game was the first tie of the year for Sonoma State, it was the fourth consecutive tie for the Lumberjacks.

Carissa Amiral had one save while her Lumberjack counterpart, Staci Self, had eight.

The Seawolves return to action on Friday afternoon when they face Cal State Monterey Bay.
