Men's Soccer Upset By SF State, 2-1

David Seidel netted his third goal in the last two games

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Brett Boysen scored the game-winner with just 2:50 remaining to give San Francisco State a 2-1 win over Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon in Rohnert Park.  It marked the third consecutive year that the Gators had upset the Seawolves on their home field as they improve to 5-7-3, 3-6-3 CCAA.  The Seawolves fall to 11-5-0, 10-2-0 CCAA.

Despite the loss, Sonoma State's grip on first place in the CCAA is still tight.  The Seawolves opened play on Sunday with a 12-point lead on all postseason eligible conference foes.

The Gators got out of the gate early on Sunday afternoon, waking the Seawolves up with a Dylan Glass goal in the seventh minute when he gathered a rebound off a Wes Whitt shot and blasted it by the SSU goalkeeper.

Sonoma State tied it up in the 54th minute when David Seidel scored off a sweet Eric Larson cross.  It was Seidel's third goal in the last two games.

Despite controlling play in the second half (they held a 10-3 shot advantage), the Seawolves gave up a tough goal in the 88th minute when Kevin Jewell found Brett Boysen for the game-winner.

Sonoma State had a 13-6 advantage in shots, a 6-1 edge in corners, and they were outfouled by a heay margin (22-12).  However, the Gators continued their magic at Seawolf Field.  Last season, SF State won 2-0 and in 2004 they won 3-2 in overtime.  Sonoma State still leads the all-time series 22-7-5.

SSU will close out their home schedule next weekend when they host Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona.
