ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State got a double-double from Lauren Redfield on Saturday night in a 56-49 win over No. 17 Seattle Pacific in the second game of the CCAA/GNAC Challenge in Rohnert Park. The win propels the Seawolves to 2-3 on the year while the Falcons drop to 4-2.
It was the second straight year Sonoma State has knocked off Seattle Pacific, a perennial national power.
Seattle Pacific got out to an early lead and led by as many as eight before Sonoma State went on a run in the first half. SSU took their first lead of the half on a pair of free throws by Lauren Redfield with 50 seconds remaining and went into the break up by a 24-21 score.
The second half saw both teams make runs, but it would be a Seawolf spurt at the end that got the job done. Tied at 47 with two minutes to go, Sonoma State scored the next nine points to ice it.
Redfield got her team-high 14 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Nichola Hester came off the bench for ten points and five rebounds. Chelsey Armacost was also solid, posting eight rebounds and eight points.
Kelsey Hill paced the Falcons with 15 points and ten rebounds. Jessie Menkens had 11 points for SPU. The Falcons shot just just 26.2% for the game, 16-for-61. The Seawolves shot 35.4% in the game and committed 25 turnovers.
The Seawolves will host Western Washington tomorrow in the fourth and final game of the CCAA/GNAC Challenge at 5:30 pm. The Vikings beat CSU Stanislaus 76-61 on Friday. Chico State meets SPU in the 3:30 game.
