TURLOCK, Calif-
Lillian Harms destroyed the school record for digs in a game, but Sonoma State lost a heartbreaker to Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night, 3-2 (30-27, 28-30, 28-30, 30-25, 15-13). The loss drops the Seawolves to 5-4, 2-3 CCAA while the Warriors improve to 4-6, 2-3 CCAA.
Harms had 50 digs, blowing the old school record of 37 right out of the water. Harms had tied the mark in the season opener against Alaska.
Rosie Manton also recorded 37 digs in a game, against Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2005.
After falling behind with a game one loss, the Seawolves rallied to take games two and three by identical 30-28 scores. Stanislaus won the fourth game, 30-25, to force the fifth and deciding game. The fifth was close, but the Warriors pulled way behind kills by Liz Cameron and Kaitlin Steffeck to nab the win.
Michelle Fletcher had a career-high 21 kills to lead the Seawolves, who hit just .096 as a team on the night.
Katie LeBeau was the only other SSU player in double figures, finishing with 11 kills.
Rosie Manton earned game-high honors with seven service aces in addition to 26 digs.
Karly Van Foeken led the Warriors with 15 kills.
Sonoma State will try to pull out a win tomorrow night, but it won't be easy as they head up Highway 99 to take on No. 16 Chico State.
