Volleyball Bucks Broncos In Four

Rachel Sagapolu had 16 kills to drive Sonoma State

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Behind a season-high 16 kills from Rachel Sagapolu, the Sonoma State volleyball team downed Cal Poly Pomona 3-1 (30-18, 33-31, 26-30, 30-26) on Saturday night in Rohnert Park.  The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Seawolves and evens out their record at 6-6, 3-5 CCAA.  The Broncos (5-8, 2-6 CCAA) dropped their fourth in a row.

The Seawolves got out to a splendid start in the first game as they went on a 7-0 run midway through to expand a 13-9 lead into 20-9.  The went on to win 30-18 in the opener, hitting a game-high .318 in the frame.

Game two saw the Broncos serve game point on two occasions, but the Seawolves got big kills from Michelle Fletcher and Rosie Manton to emerge with a 33-31 win.  In game three, the Broncos pulled away down the stretch for a 30-26 win only to see the Seawolves hand them a 30-26 defeat in the fourth and final game.

Sagapolu had 16 kills on 45 attempts for a .267 hitting percentage.  Lillian Harms had a team-high 29 digs and Megan Moore supplied the offense with 27 assists.  The Seawolves also produced 12 blocks on the night, led by Sarah Illingworth, who was a part of six of them.

Jenna Young had 13 kills to lead the Broncos, who hit just .131 as a team.  Tina Jones was the team leader in assists (28) and Audrey Driscoll took game-high honors with 30 digs. 

Sonoma State will hit the road next weekend to take on UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
