Seawolves Whip Chico For 12th Straight Win

CHICO, Calif-  Behind a pair of goals from Nathan Medina, the Sonoma State men's soccer team defeated Chico State 4-1 for their school-record 12th consecutive win, on Sunday in Chico.  The Seawolves improve to 13-2-1 overall and stay perfect in CCAA play at 11-0-0.  The Wildcats drop to 7-10-0, 4-7-0 CCAA.

It was the eighth consecutive win, and 13th in the last 14 meetings, for Sonoma State over Chico State.

On Friday, SSU learned that they had clinched the CCAA North Division, and a berth in the CCAA Tournament, for the fourth consecutive year. 

The Seawolves tied their season-high on Sunday with four goals.  They also had four goals against Cal State L.A. and Cal State San Bernardino.

Nathan Medina got things started in the 24th minute when he scored off an assist from Andrew Bailey.

Just 12 seconds before halftime, David Seidel made it a 2-0 when he gathered a loose ball and slotted it past the goalkeeper.

The Seawolves went up 3-0 in the 48th minute when freshman Brandon Dela Cruz scored his second goal of the season.  Ross Middlemiss and Mark Wiedeman were credited with assists on the play.

Medina got his second goal of the game, and ninth of the season, in the 76th minute off an Eric Lafon assist.  It was also the ninth assist of the year for Lafon, the CCAA's leader.

Chico State got on the board with their only goal in the 81st minute on a Mike Gardner penalty kick.

At 11-0-0, the Seawolves are off to their best conference start ever.  They are also now 25-2-1 in their last 28 conference games dating back to 2005.

The Seawolves will host San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay next weekend.
