Bailey Gets Record; Seawolves Advance With Win

Andrew Bailey becomes SSU's all-time leading goal scorer
CARSON, Calif-  Andrew Bailey became Sonoma State's all-time leading goal scorer on Friday afternoon as the Seawolves beat Cal State L.A. 2-0 in the semifinals of the CCAA Tournament in Carson.  The win extends SSU's winning streak to 17 in a row and propels them in to Sunday's championship game where they will play Cal State Dominguez Hills, a PK winner over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night.

After a 1-2-1 start to the season, the Seawolves have won 17 consecutive games to stand at 18-2-1.  The Golden Eagles fall to 10-6-4 on the season.

The Seawolves were held scoreless for the first 78 minutes of play on Friday, but they weren't without their fair share of opportunities.

Bailey finally found net for the Seawolves when he scored off an assist from Nathan Medina.  It was the 17th goal of the season for Bailey and the 43rd of his career.  He passes Andrew Ziemer to become the school's all-time leading goal scorer.  Bailey was honored on Thursday night as the CCAA's Player of the Year for the second straight year.

SSU tacked on another goal for good measure in the 87th minute when Mike Travis scored on a Mark Wiedeman assist.

Sonoma State out shot Cal State L.A. 16-6 for the night.  They also held an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.

Brook Johnson earned a shutout for the fourth straight game.  It was his ninth shutout of the year, putting him alone in third place on the single-season shutout chart.

The Seawolves have outscored their last four opponents by a score of 15-0.

The Seawolves will be playing in the CCAA Championship game for the second time in the last three years.  They defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills for the title in 2005.
