PHOENIX, Ariz- Sonoma State dropped the opener of their four-game series with Grand Canyon on Friday night in Phoenix, 4-1. Ian Bridges hit a monster home run to center field for the Seawolves' only run as SSU drops to 4-1 on the season.
Bryan Oland pitched a gem for six innings, but a dropped fly ball, bunt single and a couple more hits broke open the flood gates on Taylor Lewis in the seventh inning. SSU had many opportunities, including a bases loaded, no out situation in the first, but came up empty save for Bridges' homer.
David Adler accounted for two of Sonoma State's four hits off GCU starter Brian Broderick. Broderick struck out nine in a brilliant complete game effort.
The four-game series continues Saturday with a doubleheader.
