SEASIDE, Calif-
Genny Anderson came off the bench to score 17 points as Sonoma State held off a feisty Cal State Monterey Bay squad 66-62 on Saturday evening at the Kelp Bed in Seaside. The Seawolves' sixth win in their last seven games improves their record to 12-10, 11-7 CCAA. The Otters drop to 6-17, 5-13 CCAA.
Cal State Monterey Bay led early on, taking a 13-7 lead eight minutes into the game. The Seawolves came charging back, outscoring CSUMB 22-9 the rest of the first half for a 29-22 halftime lead.
SSU's lead got as high as 15 on two occasions in the second half before a CSUMB comeback tied the game at 49-49 and 54-54. A three-pointer by
Lauren Redfield, a jumper by Anderson and back -to-back buckets by
Danae Wellander gave SSU just enough breathing room to finish out the game.
Anderson's 17 points came on 6-of-11 shooting. Wellander (13) and Redfield (10) were also in double figures for SSU. Wellander and
Nichola Hester shared team-high rebounding honors with six.
Alma Lopez led the Otters with 13 points in defeat.
Sonoma State heads home next week for their final two home games of the year as they make a push at the NCAA Regionals. Cal State L.A. is in town on Thursday and Cal State Bakersfield makes their final trip to Seawolf Gym as a CCAA member on Saturday.
