Seawolves, Tritons Split Another Softball Twinbill

Alex Winters had four hits on Saturday afternoon
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  For the second day in a row, the Sonoma State and UC San Diego softball teams split a doubleheader at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park.  The Tritons took game one 9-6 in nine innings before the Seawolves bounced back with a 5-3 win in the nightcap.  The split leaves Sonoma State at 8-10, 2-4 CCAA while UCSD goes to 10-10, 5-3 CCAA.

Things looked good for the Seawolves in the opener as they got out to a 3-0 lead after four innings before the UCSD bats were awaken.  The Tritons put five runs across in the fifth, the big hits being a two-run single by Sara Robinson and an RBI triple by Allison May.

UCSD made it 6-3 when Jenny Maze hit a solo homer in the seventh inning, but SSU wouldn't go away, rallying for thre runs in their last at bat to tie it up at 6-6.  Alex Winters had a two-run single and Melissa Calvin brought across the tying run with a two-out RBI single.

UC San Diego, however, got three runs in the ninth inning to win it as the SSU defense failed to get outs on ground balls dealt to the infield.

Danielle Lukk and Nicole Saari each had two hits for UCSD.  Claire Hiney, Winters, and Ashley Eisemann each had two knocks for SSU.

In game two, Sonoma State found themselves down 2-0 and 3-2, but they battled back to tie it each time.  Bri Jayne swung the big bat with three hits and Ashley Eisemann was 2-for-3 with a couple of RBIs.  With the score tied at three, SSU found a couple of runs in the sixth inning to sneak out the win.  After Alyssa Adamo lined a double to rifth center, Alex Winters drove her home with a single up the middle.  A Shyrle Hawes double in the next at bat plated Winters to give SSU a 5-3 win.

Simone Brandalise went the distance in game two, striking out five, to improve to 2-5 on the year.

Sonoma State is on the road next weekend at Cal State Bakersfield.
