Seawolves Whip No. 17 Broncos, 65-43

Andrew Kochevar hit six three-pointers on Saturday night

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State used solid defense and precise long range shooting to knock off No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona 65-43 on Saturday night in front of a raucous Seawolf Gym crowd.  Andrew Kochevar hit six three-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points as the Seawolves improve to 9-9, 8-6 CCAA.  The Broncos, who entered the weekend ranked No. 2 in the west region, drop their second straight and fall to 12-6, 8-5 CCAA.

In the early going it was the Broncos who controlled the momentum.  Down five with 7:41 left in the half, the Seawolves found their stride and went on a 12-2 run to enter halftime up five at 25-20. 

On the other side of the break, SSU surged again, pushing the lead to ten at 30-20 before the Broncos could find a second half bucket.  Slowly but surely, the Seawolves continued to distance themselves from the Broncos, eding the lead up to 21, at 59-38, with 2:33 left. 

Kochevar was 6-for-8 from three-point territory on his way to a season-high 18 points.  J.T. Tipton (12) and Jeff Fuller (10) were also in double figures on the night.  Not to be forgotten, Doni Noble pitched in with eight in his best outing in a Seawolf uniform.  SSU shot 39.6% for the game and had a commanding 34-21 lead on the boards. 

Larry Gordon was the leading scorer for Cal Poly Pomona with 13 points.  The Broncos shot 38.5% for the game and committed 17 turnovers.

The Seawolves hit the road next weekend for the first of four in a row away from Seawolf Gym.  Up first is UC San Diego on Friday night.
