Softball Takes A Split With No. 9 Stanislaus

Brittany Williams earned her team-high sixth win of the year on Friday
TURLOCK, Calif-  The young Sonoma State softball team came of age on Friday afternoon when they knocked off the ninth ranked team in the nation, Cal State Stanislaus, 7-3 in the second game of a doubleheader.  Stanislaus won game one by a 3-1 score.  The split leaves the Seawolves at 15-21, 6-12 CCAA.  The Warriors stand at 22-8, 13-7 CCAA.

The Seawolves are toward the end of a ten-game stretch where they play eight games against teams in the national top ten.

Cal State Stanislaus emerged a 3-1 winner in the opener thanks to a two-run homer in the second inning by pitcher Jessica Scholl.  SSU got an RBI single from Britni Geary, but that was all the offense they could muster.  Lindsay Emmel pitched a solid three innings before giving way to Brittany Williams, who tossed three hitless innings in relief.  Claire Hiney had two hits from the leadoff spot.

In game two, the Seawolves put their bats together for seven runs.  SSU led off the scoring in the first inning when Carli Feuerbach got an RBI on a fielder's choice.  After Stanislaus tied it at one in the bottom of the inning, SSU scored three times in the third, the big hit coming on a two-run double by Shyrle Hawes.  RBI fielder's choices by Simone Brandalise, Alex Winters, and Ashley Eisemann, put the game out of reach for the Warriors.  Brittany Williams got the start and came away with the win after yielding just five hits and three runs over 4.1 innings of work.

The Seawolves and Warriors will play another doubleheader on Saturday in Turlock.
