TURLOCK, Calif- Alex Winters had a pair of doubles, Lindsay Emmel continued her domination, and the Sonoma State softball team continued to turn heads on Sunday at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock. The Seawolves beat Seattle University 7-2 to improve to 5-1 at the tournament and move on to the Gold Bracket semifinals where they'll face either Humboldt State or Hawaii Pacific.
Lindsay Emmel did one better than her first two starts of the tournament with a career-high 13 strikeouts. In three starts, the junior has struck out an amazing 37 batters, by far the most in the tournament.
On Sunday, five different Seawolves had two hits, led by a 2-for-3 performance by Alex Winters. Swinging one of the hottest bats in the region, Winters continued on her tear with two doubles and three RBIs. Other Seawolves with multiple hits included Megan Ochylski, Ashley Eisemann, Rachelle Boone, and Britni Geary.
SSU got out to a 6-0 lead through five innings before the Redhawks finally found their way to the scoreboard.
With five wins, the Seawolves (20-24) are already having their most successful Tournament of Champions performance ever.
