Seawolves Continue Late Season Rise With Sweep

Lindsay Emmel started and finished the sweep.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Sonoma State pitching ace Lindsay Emmel set the tone early for the SSU softball team in its CCAA doublheader against Cal State San Bernardino Friday afternoon. She fanned 10 batters and allowed only two hits to carry the Seawolves to a 1-0 win in the opener then came in during the nightcap to finish the sweep with a save.  SSU won game two 5-4.

In game one, Sonoma State (25-26 overall, 11-15) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to give Emmel all the run support she would need. Emmel (12-10) had a perfect game for five and two-thirds innings until CSUSB designated player Jocelyn Perry singled up the middle.  Emmel then worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the seventh inning to notch the win.

Sonoma State fell behind early in game two as CSUSB scored runs in the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead. But the Seawolves responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game. The Coyotes answered with another two runs in the top of the sixth inning off SSU starter Simone Brandalise.
SSU would not trail for long. The Seawolves loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and centerfielder Britni Geary cleared them with a three-RBI double to center field to take a 5-4 lead.

Brandalise went six innings, allowing four runs off nine hits. Emmel closed out the seventh for her second save of the season.

Ashley Eisemann led the offense with three hits on the day. Alex Winters, Shyrle Hawes and Megan Ochylski each had two hits.

Sonoma State is back in action tomorrow morning when they play host to CSUSB at 11:00 am in another CCAA doubleheader.
