Softball Splits Doubleheader With Otters

Simone Brandalise was the winning pitcher in game two
SALINAS, Calif-  The Sonoma State softball team split a twilight doubleheader with Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night.  The Seawolves lost the opener 2-1 before bouncing back for an 11-1 win in the nightcap.  The split leaves the Seawolves at 27-28, 13-17 CCAA.

Lindsay Emmel pitched well for the Seawolves in the opener, but SSU was unable to generate much offense off of Otter starter Jessica Boyle.  Emmel went six innings allowing five hits and just one earned run while striking out two.  Her two strikeouts give her 163 for the season, just six off Brenda Scally's school record of 169.

Tied at one in the fourth inning, CSUMB would get the go-ahead run on a Seawolf error.  SSU had a good opportunity to strike in the 6th before a bases loaded, one out situation came up fruitless.  Megan Ochylski led the Seawolves with three hits.  SSU outhit the Otters 8-5 in the game.

In game two, the Seawolves led just 1-0 through four before putting up four runs in the fifth inning.  The big hit was a two-run Megan Ochylski single up the middle.  Up 5-1, the floodgates swung open in the seventh when Carli Feuerbach, Alex Winters, and Ashley Eisemann each drove in two runs.

Simone Brandalise got the win with a stellar seven-inning, three-hit performance.  The freshman didn't allow an earned run and struck out five.  Megan Ochylski continued to swing a hot bat, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.  Ashley Eisemann also drove in three via two doubles.

The Seawolves and Otters will play another doubleheader on Saturday.
