Otters Edge Seawolves For Ninth Place

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Cal State Monterey Bay took a 4-1 lead and held on after a late Sonoma State charge for a 7-6 win to earn ninth place at the 2007 Western Water Polo Association Women's Championship at East Fieldhouse Aquatics Center on the campus of UC Santa Cruz on Sunday morning.

CSUMB took a 4-1 lead after the first period and never trailed despite a late rally by Sonoma State. Six different players scored for Monterey Bay, including a pair from the nation's top goal scorer in Chelsea Laning.

Samantha Mullins scored three for Sonoma State. The Seawolves trailed 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but cut the lead to 7-6 with 2:56 to play. They had one last possession with 42 seconds remaining but could not capitalize.
