Men's Soccer Settles For Scoreless Tie

Cody Ericson and the defense held Grand Canyon scoreless
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State men's soccer team dominated Grand Canyon on Friday evening everywhere except the place that it matters....the score.  Despite a 30-5 shot advantage, the Seawolves had to settle for a 0-0 tie in their season opener at the Seawolf Classic in Rohnert Park.

SSU controlled the ball for much of the 110 minute game and didn't allow a shot attempt by the Antelopes in either of the overtime periods.  The Seawolves even had several  fantastic opportunities to score, but each attempt went wide, went high, or was stopped by the GCU goalkeeper.

Much of the credit for the tie goes to GCU keeper Vincent Liciardi, who had ten saves in the game.  Brook Johnson made a pair of saves to earn a shutout of his own.

SSU had a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks and a 19-11 edge in fouls.  Grand Canyon picked up four yellow cards to just two for Sonoma.

The teams will conclude play at the Seawolf Classic on Sunday.  GCU takes on Humboldt State while the host Seawolves meet Seattle.
