SEATTLE, Wash- The Sonoma State men's soccer team took nearly twice as many shots, but fell in a hotly contested west region match, 2-1 to No. 19 Seattle Pacific on Monday in Seattle. SSU's
Andrew Bailey scored his fourth goal in the past two games, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Seawolves from dropping to 1-2-1 on the year. The Falcons improve to 3-0-1.
Both of Sonoma State's losses have come to teams from Seattle, Washington. SSU was a 2-1 loser to sixth-ranked Seattle University last Sunday.
Sonoma State had a 27-13 advantage in shots and and an 8-6 corner kick edge, but it would be SPU finding the net first. Jeff Coggan's header off a corner kick in the 23rd minute slipped past SSU goalkeeper
Brook Johnson to give the Falcons the one goal lead.
SSU continued to pepper the SPU defense with great scoring opportunities, but it wouldn't be until the 73rd minute when Bailey finally put the Seawolves on the board. Freshman
Brandon Dela Cruz found Bailey at a diagonal and the junior from Davis beat the SPU goalkeeper to tie things up.
The Seawolves and Falcons battled through a scoreless overtime to set up a second 10-minute OT period. Just over four minutes in, SPU's James Coggan, the brother of Jeff, scored on a counter attack to give the Falcons the victory.
The Seawolves look to rebound from Monday's loss next weekend when they hit the road to take on another very good opponent, Cal State L.A.
