Men's Soccer Rolls Past No. 6 Cal State L.A.

LOS ANGELES, Calif-  Sonoma State got goals from four different players in a 4-2 win over the nation's sixth-ranked team, Cal State L.A., on Friday night at Jesse Owens Track in Los Angeles.  The win lifts the Seawolves to 2-2-1, 1-0-0 CCAA on the season.  The Golden Eagles (2-2-1, 0-1-0 CCAA) fall for the second straight game.

Mark Wiedeman, Andrew Bailey, Nathan Medina, and Eric Lafon each scored goals.  Senior Mike Travis was a catalyst, finishing the game with two assists.

Sonoma State scored early on a penalty kick, just three minutes into the game, when Mark Wiedeman made good and gave SSU an early 1-0 lead.  CSULA tied it up at one in the 14th minute, but soon after that, Andrew Bailey connected on his team-high fifth goal of the year to make it 2-1 SSU.

Just a minute after Bailey's goal, CSULA's John Massquoi scored to even things up at 2-2.  The score would stay that way until just before half when Nathan Medina scored on a Michael Asaro assist.

The Seawolves would tack on an insurance goal in the 60th minute when Eric Lafon found net off an assist by Mike Travis.

The Seawolves out shot the Golden Eagles 16-13 and had a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.  Brook Johnson recorded six saves in goal.

Sonoma State returns home next weekend to face Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State.
