Seawolves Sluggish In Loss To Humboldt State

Jennifer Russo had ten points in Thursday's loss to Humboldt State
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Katie Franci had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Humboldt State to a 49-43 thumping of first place Sonoma State on Thursday night in Rohnert Park.  The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Seawolves as they fall to 8-2, 2-1 CCAA.  The Lumberjacks improve to 5-5, 1-2 CCAA.

Franci, a former star at Analy High School, was locked in a battle with another Sonoma County product, SSU's Danae Wellander (Sonoma Valley HS), for much of the game.  Wellander led the Seawolves with 14 points.

Tied 29, Humboldt State stole the momentum midway through the second half with an 8-0 run that put them up 37-29.  SSU would cut the lead to three on several occasions, but couldn't get over the hump.

The Seawolves were doomed by poor free throw shooting all night as they shot just 42% from the stripe.  From the field, SSU was just 17-of-56 (30.4%).

Jennifer Russo had a solid performance off the bench for SSU, finishing with ten points.  Heidi Mertle was tops in the game with nine rebounds.

Franci was assisted by ten points from Kayla Henry for HSU.

The Seawolves hope to play better tomorrow night when they host No. 12 UC San Diego.
