Howell Leads Seawolves To 17-0 Rout Of Patten

Trevor Howell is batting .545 this season
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Trevor Howell hit two home runs and a double to lead Sonoma State to a 17-0 non-conference romp over Patten University on Sunday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond.  In three games this weekend, the Seawolves outscored their opponents 45-3.  Sonoma State improves to 6-0 on the season.

Sunday's results come just 24 hours after a 22-0 rout of San Francisco State.

The Seawolves are off to a 6-0 start for the second time in three years.  The school record for consecutive wins to start a season is six, which has been accomplished three times (2002, 2006, 2008)

The Lions hung around early, trailing just 3-0 after three innings.  In the fourth, Dave Herman drove in a run to make it 4-0.  The floodgates opened in the sixth as Howell delivered a pinch-hit homer and Derek Harms knocked a grand slam en route to a six-run inning.

Sonoma would add three more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh and eighth.

Howell, despite entering the game in the fifth inning, finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.  He just missed his third home run in three innings when his eighth inning line drive hit near the base of the wall.  Howell is currently batting .545 with three homers and two doubles in just 11 at bats.

Harms' grand slam was the second in as many days for Sonoma State.  As a team, the Seawolves are 8-for-12 this season with the bases loaded.

Gary Moran went the first four innings for SSU, allowing just two hits and striking out three.  Raashad Tucker pitched the next 2 1/3 innings, striking out four batters and yielding just one hit for the win.  Tucker has now struck out 11 batters in 5 1/3 innings this season.

Kenny Cook, Paul Oules, and Troy Brown also pitched in relief, preserving the Seawolves' second shutout of the season.

The Seawolves have outscored their opponents 66-7 so far this season.

Sonoma State returns to action next Friday when they head to Cal State Stanislaus for a non-conference game.  They will host the Warriors the next day for a doubleheader.
