ROHNERT PARK, Calif- In the completion of Friday's halted game, Sonoma State defeated Cal Poly Pomona 6-4 on Saturday at Seawolf Diamond. SSU scored four times in the eighth inning to earn the come-from-behind win and improve to 12-1 overall.
Senior
Matt Means threw six brilliant innings of no-hit ball on Friday before rain ended the day's play. Cal Poly Pomona's starter, Brandon Mozley was nearly as good, tossing five scoreless before giving way to a reliever in the sixth who proceeded to load the bases.
Resuming play from that point on Saturday, SSU scored the game's first run on a rather strange play. Thinking that shortstop
Kris Haycock went all the way around for a swinging third strike with two outs,
Mark Pestorich left third base to head back to the dugout. However, the umpire ruled that Haycock held up, presumably leaving Pestorich hanging out to dry between third and home. The CPP catcher threw behind the runner and the ball was dropped by the Bronco third baseman allowing Pestorich was to scamper home.
Cal Poly Pomona, after managing no hits against Means on Friday, had better luck against reliever
Rashad Tucker, who yielded two hits, two walks, and two runs in an inning and a third. Pomona took a 3-2 lead in the eighth before the Seawolves struck for four in the bottom of the inning.
Cameron Cook supplied most of the damage with a three-run double.
