ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State got wins from
Casey O'Connor,
Mary Bulich, and
Haley Hickock in singles to edge UC Santa Cruz 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon in women's tennis action in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves improve to 2-2 on the season with the win.
SSU was aided by forfeitures at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Banana Slugs took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches by 8-3 and 8-2 scores.
O'Connor needed a come-from-behind effort to pick up her win at No. 2 singles. She lost the first set 6-3, then stormed back for 6-3 and 6-4 wins. Bulich also needed to go three to defeat her opponent, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. Hickock was the only dominant win for the Seawolves, winning at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday when they host UC San Diego in their CCAA opener.
