ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State women's basketball team wrapped up a home game in the CCAA Tournament with a 70-62 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday at Seawolf Gym. The Seawolves got a huge night from
Genny Anderson as they improve to 19-7, 13-6 CCAA. The Broncos drop to 11-14, 8-11 CCAA.
The Seawolves will host a CCAA Tournament opening round game on March 4th at Seawolf Gym against an opponent yet to be determined. Game time will be 7:00 pm.
Anderson's 29 points were a career-high. She shot 9-of-21 from the field and also had 12 rebounds, seven of them coming on the offensive side. Feeding Anderson all night long was
Danae Wellander, who neared the first triple-double in SSU history. Wellander finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in a tremendous all-around effort.
The Broncos got out to the early lead before SSU used an 8-0 run to take the lead. SSU would eventually push the run to 17-3, growing a nine point lead midway through the half. The Seawolves would lead by seven at the half.
Cal Poly Pomona cut the lead to one on two occasions in the second half, but down the stretch it was too much Anderson and too much Wellander for the upset.
Vanessa Dominguez led the Broncos with 17 points and eight rebounds.
With the win, SSU avenged a loss earlier in the season to the Broncos in Pomona.
The Seawolves will finish up the regular season tomorrow night when they host second place Cal State San Bernardino.
