ARCATA, Calif- Humboldt State got a big night from big man Cy Vandermeer to roll to an 86-60 rout of Sonoma State on Wednesday night in Arcata. Vandermeer finished with 18 points and 15 boards as the 'Jacks avenge a loss to Sonoma State back in January. Humboldt goes to 14-6, 9-4 CCAA while the Seawolves drop to 9-10, 5-8 CCAA.
The 'Jacks got out to an early lead and never looked back, doubling the Seawolves' output in the first half, 48-24. The lead grew to as many as 34 in the second half before SSU was able to get it down to the final margin of 26.
Gerred Link tied his career-high with 14 points for the Seawolves. He hit three three-pointers and was 5-of-9 from the field.
Blake Saunders and
Ben Washington were also in double digits with 11 points each.
Keith Garner posted nine rebounds and Washington had a season-high six assists to go along with four steals..
Vandermeer's double-double came in just 26 minutes after he went 7-for-9 from the field. Grayson Moyer (15 points) and Devin Peal (10 points, eight rebounds) were also crucial for Humboldt State.
The Seawolves will now head some 765 miles south to take on UC San Diego on Saturday. The game will be available via an NCAA/CSTV video webcast, available through a link on the SSU athletics website.
