Women's Hoops Season Ends With Loss To UAA

All eleven of Genny Anderson's team-high points came in the first half
SEATTLE, Wash-  The Sonoma State women's basketball team saw its 2007-08 season come to an end on Friday at the NCAA West Regional in Seattle as the Seawolves fell to Alaska Anchorage, 70-53.  Sonoma State finishes the year with a record of 20-10.

Friday's game got off to a promising start as the Seawolves led for the first 15 minutes of action.  SSU was up 21-18 with 6:23 left before Alaska's potent offense got rolling.  Alaska closed the first half on a 12-3 run, then opened up a 15-point lead in the first three and a half minutes of the second half.

Sonoma State's offense sputtered early in the second, though as they started to hit shots, Alaska got even hotter.  UAA was shooting around 70% for the first ten minutes of the second half.

Alaska owned Sonoma State on the glass, outrebounding SSU 48-26 for the game and gathering 20 offensive rebounds.

Genny Anderson led Sonoma State with 11 points, all of them coming in the first half.  Danae Wellander was held to ten points and Chelsey Armacost to just nine.  Lauren Redfield scored two points and Heidi Mertle had one.  One bright spot was the play of Olivia Larkin, who had nine points, tying her career-high.

UAA got even scoring from Ruby Williams (16), Rebecca Kielpinski (16), Maria Nilsson (15), and Kalhie Quinones (15).  Kielpinski, the GNAC's Player of the Year, had 11 rebounds and four assists as well in an impressive performance.

Alaska Anchorage (27-4) will play the winner of the Northwest Nazarene/Chico State game tomorrow night.
